About COPETOWN

COPETOWN.ORG:
The spiked side of COPE

.

One would ask what the value of yet another blog would be in this age of infobesity and proliferation of blogging opinion. We’ve discovered the following gaps:

  • Lack of reliable information related to the structures of Congress of the People (COPE) in the region of Cape Town Metro.
  • Lack timorous information about party activities in our region.
  • Confusion about precise policies of COPE.
  • A need for sustained political education.

Copetown.org aims to feel these gaps. We also think South African politics are a little dull so aim to spike them up.

Copetown.org is not an official site for COPE in the Cape Town Metro, but an ancillary founded by a group people who work in close association with COPE regional office. The primary aim is to:

  • Transmit COPE’s political and cultural message.
  • Correct uniformed criticism and diffuse aspersions against COPE.
  • Update the superannuable of our political heritage to progressive relevance of our fast changing times.
  • Be the nose for COPE in sniffing the direction of social air.
  • Promote good political and cultural standards.
  • Repair the rapid decline of South Africa’s political thought.
  • Renew the moribund hope for the establishment of a just and egalitarian society in our land.
  • Put our shoulder against all forms of oppression and repression.
  • Inculcate habits of critical thinking to expose shifty enemies of the people who use rhetoric to perpetuate their parasitic tendencies.
  • Dispose all forms of prejudice.
  • Promote universally known truths of humanity, etc.

In short, we stand for progressive culture and social order. We also wish to entertain.

We encourage contributors but warn that we are allergic to stupidity, bigotry, abstract thinking that has no immediate practical relevance, anything subversive to justice, obsolete ideology, cut and paste thinking, well-wrought urns of tedious obscure language, cunning language of radical propaganda that deliberately omits known facts to promote its argument, ill informed and uninstructed opinion.

We are excited by expression of specific thought done in lucid language of cool non aggressive prose. Clear and affable unified argument of subtle thought is certainly an advantage. We’ve no problem with deeper thought but advise the use of more accessible ways in supporting one’s arguments.  We discourage confetti of quotations from, say Marx, Hegel, Freud, deconstructing Derridas of this world, or why you think their lot is misunderstood. We like progressive intellectual ideas but shy away from exponent proletcult (did we mention we want to be educative?), i.e. the talk of paralysing talks about revolutions and all. Did we mention we wish to entertain in informing?

We prefer articles to be no more than 800 words but exceptions will be made when necessary.
